The Chairman of the Board is the immediate past president. He/she performs those duties assigned by the President.
Mr. Kauffman is currently the Director of Raytheon’s Los Angeles Corporate Business Development Office. In this position he provides senior business development support and guidance to all of Raytheon’s six companies for business in the greater Los Angeles area, Edwards AFB and Vandenberg AFB. Significant business focus is on the opportunities that fall under the purview of the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). Key pursuits he has contributed significantly to include GPS OCX, Space Fence, LISC, FAB-T and DWSS (formerly NPOESS). He has also supported numerous other opportunities across the space segment, ground segment, user equipment and sustainment areas.
Previously, as Director of West Coast Operations for Space for General Dynamics, Mr. Kauffman was responsible for managing the operations of General Dynamics’ Los Angeles office. In addition, Mr. Kauffman acted as a liaison to the company’s Los Angeles and West Coast based customers and worked closely with General Dynamics’ Program Development teams to expand and support its business base in military, NASA and civil programs. Mr. Kauffman’s career with General Dynamics began as part of the Spectrum Astro team before being purchased by General Dynamics.
Prior to joining Spectrum Astro, Mr. Kauffman was the Vice President of Information Systems at Psomas, a design and engineering company headquartered in West Los Angeles. In that position, he was in charge of broadening the company’s existing Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Division to include a wide range of Information Technology (IT) services in the areas of software applications, data base solutions, project management and implementation and strategic consulting. Mr. Kauffman was also responsible for extending the company’s services to the federal, municipal, state, county, consortium and utility markets and for overseeing two of Psomas’ office locations.
Before his appointment at Psomas, Mr. Kauffman was the President and CEO of Xymox Systems Inc., a software product firm providing integrated business solutions to a diverse client base that included Warner Brothers, Disney, Sony, CBS, General Motors, Ford and Boeing. He came to Xymox from Logicon, Inc., where from 1991 to 1996, he coordinated all of the Information Systems related business development activities for their Strategic and Information Systems Group. From 1977 to 1989, he was a Director in the Albuquerque Operations and then Vice President of the Los Angeles Operations for the BDM Corporation, a large defense systems integration company where he also managed numerous domestic and international technology programs. Early in his career, Mr. Kauffman worked as a design and test engineer for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and for the Teledyne Brown Engineering Company.
Mr. Kauffman graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. He served in the US Army as a Project Test lead for the Aviation Test Board testing helicopter and helicopter systems in a number of national and international environments.
In addition to his active involvement in the Air Force Association (AFA) as a National Director, he is a board member and officer in a number of other professional organizations including AUSA, NDIA, AFCEA, AIAA, and SCAPR. He is also a Board of Directors member and a volunteer for the Greater Los Angeles USO.
