Army Ball – 2018

The Army Ball

Army Ball 2018
We held a ball... and everyone came. At least it seemed that way! Nearly 500 people filled the Grand Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Huntington Beach to celebrate the 243rd Anniversary of the United States Army.

How exciting it was for all of us that more than 340 of those attendees were Soldiers and their significant others - attending from the generous donations of companies and individuals through our “Give A Soldier A Night Out” program. Perhaps one of the best parts of the evening was seeing these outstanding men and women recognized by the community for their service. This is so much more than just a “party” for them. It is a time to celebrate the heritage of the United States Army and to show their pride in serving their country. And, yes, they also had a really great time. Boy, these Soldiers can dance!

It isn’t an easy job reaching out to all of the units in our area of responsibility, ensuring every unit gets the word, prioritizing responses, filling 340 seats – and then overseeing the actual seating. Debra Mendelsohn (pictured) and Michelle Van Der Linden deserve special recognition and thanks for the amazing job that they do, year after year.

BG Jeff Broadwater, our military guest of honor, offered us words of history and encouragement. As the Commanding General of the National Training Center and Ft. Irwin, he carries the great responsibility of ensuring our Soldiers are ready to fight for America. We were honored to have BG Broadwater and his lovely wife, Alicia, with us again this year.

GLAC was proud to host a very special ceremony that saw country music star and TV personality Craig Morgan awarded the Army Outstanding Civilian Service medal. LTG Bruce Crawford, the Army CIO/G-6, GEN (Ret) Carter Ham and our beloved chapter president LTC (Ret) Pete Seitz all participated in the ceremony. Mr. Morgan stood for an hour shaking hands and taking photos with all who wanted to meet him. His remarks were a reflection of his humble spirit and continuing desire to serve his country – after more than 16 years in Army uniform.

The Army Ball committee is a dedicated group of volunteers that spends many months and hours planning in order to ensure that the event special for all of its attendees. This event would not happen without their hard work and dedication. Will and Joanne Ross, pictured, have been absolute anchors to the committee for as long as we can remember. The entire committee is listed, below.

Our own personal paparazzi – Louie the Lens - was everywhere that night!
